Peponi Senior SchoolSedge House

Co-educational Junior House Shell pupils (Year 9)

“Sedge’’ refers to a community of cranes, hence our symbol; it is a boarding House whose name befits its aim: that is to nurture and cultivate all round individuals who realise their full potential. Sedge House is a Junior house where a pupil’s middle school life begins: the transition from prep school into secondary school life.

With Ms Mary Mukule as overall Housemistress, and Mr Simon Odundo as the Resident Tutor, Sedge House is the newest member of the boarding Houses at Peponi School, and is home to all Shell members. It is co-educational for pupils aged 13 – 14 years: the girls’ section is on first floor whereas the boys’ section is situated on the ground floor. There is a team of Tutors affiliated to Sedge House who help look after work, rest and play in the House as well as our designated resident Nurse, Sister Sarah, who has a vast amount of experience in caring and guiding pupils. She plays an instrumental role in helping the pupils settle into school.

The pupils get to study and practice late without having to commute home. (In fact, some local pupils choose to board rather than spend time commuting.) When the pupils board they get to immerse themselves in activities and friendships more deeply than they otherwise could. They make friends who stay with them for life.

We have modern refurbished single rooms, double rooms, shared rooms and Common Rooms for day pupils, weekly boarders and boarders alike. Recreation is never dull: pleasure derived from the latest Play Station or Wii console, movies on the screens, pool, table tennis or a variety of board games, is never far away. There is also a well-equipped kitchenette that the pupils use to practice their culinary skills.

The pupils get the independence of living away from their parents and family while they make new siblings and a new family of their House mates and House Tutors (teachers who live on campus and are affiliated with Sedge House). A sense of family and community is at the heart of the Sedge House boarding experience, providing a warm, welcoming and friendly atmosphere for our boarders – nurturing them to develop to their full potential whilst building a love of learning.

“Sedge House has made me realise that I have to be responsible and mature of my everyday life, not just prep education. Now as a weekly boarder, I like how I have my own room meaning that I have my own personal space… and that the whole place is so modern.” [Year 9 weekly boarder)

Once pupils move into the Lower Vth (Year 10) they will move into their rightful House building, having been given the perfect nurturing into Peponi School at Sedge.

Sedge House has made me realise that I have to be responsible and mature in my everyday life, not just prep education. Now as a weekly boarder, I like how I have my own room meaning that I have my own personal space… and that the whole place is so modern.
